Taybank Growers Coop Coronavirus policy
We have been refining our practices in line with recent measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Here is what we will be doing at Taybank Growers Cooperative to protect the general public and our growers. These measures follow the Land Workers Alliance’s ‘safer food practices’ which can be found here: https://landworkersalliance.org.uk/safer-food-business/ .
Harvesting
- Wash hands before harvesting and/or wear gloves. Avoid touching face while working.
- One member of staff harvesting at a time.
- Staff using individually allocated knives/scissors which are washed before use.
- Harvest buckets washed thoroughly before use.
Veg bag packing and deliveries
- Wash hands thoroughly before packing and wear gloves. Avoid touching face while working.
- One member of staff packing bags at a time.
- Delivery drivers wash hands before picking up bags and only touch outside of the bags.
- Bags left in agreed place outside rather than knocking on the door.
- Customers to pay electronically rather than with cash.
- Customers asked not to return packaging
Staff areas
- Regularly clean communal staff areas, including wiping down door and gate handles and other commonly touches places.
- Adjust working practices to be able to maintain a safe distance from other workers.
- Reduce tool sharing if possible, or make sure tools are cleaned after use.
- No entry to staff areas by the general public unless to collect veg bags by arrangement.
- Wash hands frequently including before coming to work and leaving to go home
- Wear gloves while working and wash after use.
Volunteers
We have had quite a few enquiries from people wishing to volunteer. We will consider volunteering for specific tasks where a safe working distance can be maintained.
- Growers and volunteers will practice social distancing whilst working, TGC staff to lead on this.
- Volunteers will not enter the TGC shed and will be asked to bring their own snacks and flasks of tea.
- Growers will clean tools following use and everyone will wear gloves which will be washed afterwards.
- TGC will promote good hand washing and provide good hand washing facilities.
