We want to make our produce more accessible to people around Perthshire, and to do this we have come up with Taygrow Real Food.
What?
Our idea is a mobile pay-what-you-can shop stocked with fresh, chemical free produce grown in our market garden. The shop will be a platform to engage people with food, particularly growing, cooking and eating fresh, healthy produce.
The shop will be an honesty system which is staffed some of the time. Fresh produce will be available to everyone, no matter their situation.
We will provide information and advice on preparing, cooking and growing fresh food to people attending the shop through face-to-face contact and take-home information. This service will provide access to affordable, healthy veg to people who cannot access it due to price and availability as well as the skills to use this produce and grow it at home.

Where?
The shop will visit communities in rural Perthshire, being staffed during targeted times and open as an honesty shop at other times. We are looking to speak with members of the following communities: Bankfoot, Burrelton, Stanely, Luncarty, Murthly, Meikleour and Bridge of Cally. If you live or work in one of the communities then please get in touch. Or if you live in another community and like our idea the let us know.
We are looking for places to park our mobile shop, which is built inside a horse trailer. We are also looking for people who can help get our idea out into the community.

When?
We are currently undertaking a feasibility to see how the project might work, where it could go and how it would be funded.
We would like to take to the road in summer 2023. We are considering staying for a while in each location or moving around frequently would suit the community best. We may try a combination of these to see what people like.

Why?
We believe that everyone should have access to affordable, healthy produce and they should be empowered with the skills to grow and cook it.
We believe that Taygrow Real Food would:
It will also allow us to trial a pay what-you-can system in rural Perthshire with the potential to make such a shop permanent or to expand the mobile shop system to reach a wider diversity of communities
We believe that Taygrow Real Food would:
- Have immediate impact by providing people with access to affordable, healthy local food.
- Help people to live healthy lives and undertake fulfilling activities through cooking, eating and growing healthy produce.
- Connect people to where their food comes from.
- Reduce the climate impact of our community by reducing food miles through local, chemical free produce and engaging people in grow-your-own.
- Have long-term impact by providing people with the skills to cook seasonal produce and grow their own food.
- Help to build up a picture of needs and barriers relating to healthy food.
